Working towards a sustainable future for tourism!
At AX The Victoria Hotel in Sliema, we are dedicated to making tourism in Malta more sustainable. As a Green Mobility Label Hotel, we recognise the impact that our day-to-day and long-term operations can have on our environment.
Together, we can help drive positive change to the tourism industry’s impact on the environment. Our aims are to improve our guests’ travelling experience in Malta, to raise awareness about green mobility and to safeguard our island’s environmental assets. By contributing to a sustainable transport management system within the tourism industry, we also aim to improve the quality of life of residents in Malta. All in all, these measures are aimed at mitigating the carbon footprint left by the hotel industry in Malta.
We are currently implementing measures to ensure that our practices are sustainable across every level and channel. Thus, our Green Mobility Policy targets all individuals that are connected to our hotel, including guests, employees, visitors, suppliers and business associates. The Green Mobility Policy is designed to promote sustainable methods of transport in connection with our hotel, as well as the rest of Malta. We are set on promoting walking, cycling, electric vehicles, and public transport and shared transport, while reducing the use of fossil fuels.
We seek to encourage our guests to adopt more sustainable and green mobility options by actively promoting and continuously improving our initiatives. Such measures include having a secure bicycle parking facility onsite, for guests and staff, shared shuttle transport to the airport and to weekly cultural activities, promotion of shared bikes and shared book-and-drive electric cars located in the vicinity, and the sale of public transport cards from the hotel reception.
We also haven’t forgotten about the impact our employees can make. Therefore, we have invested in a number of measures to encourage alternative methods of transportation between the workplace and our employees’ homes. Staff are encouraged to use our onsite bicycle parking facilities or our shared transportation. We provide a sleeping room with refreshments and showers, where staff can stay in between shifts, or make use of the facilities before their shift. Moreover, we have invested in a residence close by, to be used by employees as a staff quarters. Finally, we attempt to purchase as much locally-sourced produce as possible, in order to limit our deliveries. Our management also informs all drivers to switch off idle vehicles, while they wait.
